Stress Reduction Protocol

• Open communication about fears and concerns

• Sort appointments

• Morning appointments (or when the patient feels best)

• Preoperative sedation: Short acting benzodiazepine (e.g., triazolam 0.125-0.25 mg) one hour before the appointment and possibly the night before the appointment

• Intraoperative sedation (nitrous oxide)

• Profound local anesthesia, using topical before the injection

• Adequate postoperative pain control

• Patient contacted the evening of the procedure
